Get Involved

One of Mayor Fischer's top goals is to make Louisville a healthier city - physically, environmentally, socially and financially. The Office of Sustainability and its many partners have launched several initiatives to help reach this goal, but we cannot do it alone. We need all citizens to do their part. Below, we've listed several ways residents can help make Louisville a more sustainable community.

  • Volunteer or become a Volunteer Intern for the Office of Sustainability
    • The Office of Sustainability is accepting applications for a volunteer summer intern. An ideal candidate would have high quality writing skills, experience with designing flyers, and general knowledge of sustainability principles. The successful candidate will obtain an in-depth understanding of daily work within the the Office of Sustainability and will have the opportunity to contribute to Sustain Louisville goal achievement. The intern will work approximately 20 hours per week for eight weeks during the summer months. Interested applicants should send a resume and cover letter to by Friday, March 31, 2017. Applicants must be college or university students.
    • Volunteer internships are often available through the Office of Sustainability. Interns assist project managers and the director of sustainability with implementing the initiatives and goals in Sustain Louisville, the city's sustainability plan. Preference is given to candidates who have degrees or are working on degrees in sustainability, biological science, environmental engineering, environmental science, public administration, urban planning or a related field.
    • The Office of Sustainability also maintains a list of general volunteers for projects and events.
