Senior Nutrition Volunteer Opportunities
Your support of time with Louisville Metro’s Senior Nutrition Program can make a big difference in the life of a senior. Volunteers provide a needed service in delivering meals to the homebound elderly. Louisville Metro delivers about 500 meals daily on approximately 46 routes. Although the volunteer’s primary role is to deliver a nutritional meal to the homebound senior citizen, face-to-face contact is a very important aspect of this responsibility. Often the volunteer delivering the mobile meals is the only social interaction for a homebound senior. Click here for a downloadable flyer to learn more about this rewarding volunteer opportunity.
Volunteers are also utilized at Congregate Meal sites to help package and serve meals to seniors in attendance each weekday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Please review the current Open Senior Congregate sites, hours, locations here.
Volunteer Requirements
All potential volunteers are asked to complete an application and a criminal records check. One’s own transportation is required to deliver for the Meals on Wheels Program. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for Meals on Wheels and most routes usually take about one hour to deliver. Volunteers must be available at least every other week. Our staff works to coordinate which route and days are most suitable for our volunteers.
