Christmas Tree Drop-Off

Starting Tuesday, December 26, Christmas tree drop-off sites will be available for all Louisville/Jefferson County residents at three locations. The Hubbards Lane site will also instantly recycle Christmas trees into mulch that will be offered back to citizens for home use. Those wishing to receive mulch must bring an appropriate container in which to carry it. All lights and ornaments should be removed from trees before they are dropped off. Christmas tree vendors may recycle their unsold trees on Tuesday, December 26 only, and only at the Hubbards Lane site.

HOURS & LOCATIONS
Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Waste Reduction Center closes at 3 p.m. on Saturdays)
December 28 - January 27

All locations will be closed on Saturdays December 30 and January 13 in observance of New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
•    East District Recycling Center, 595 N. Hubbards Lane
•    Public Works Yard, 10500 Lower River Road (enter from Bethany Lane)
•    Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue

Metro Public Works will also provide curbside pickup of Christmas trees within the Urban Services District after the holiday. Residents with city yard waste collection may set their Christmas trees and greenery out on their regular collection day. Trees may not be in plastic bags and all decorations must be removed.
Residents normally serviced by private waste haulers should check with those companies to see if and when tree pickup is available.

Winter Yard Waste Schedule

Since the amount of yard waste generated is far less in the winter, the schedule is adjusted for a more efficient collection. From mid-January to mid-March yard waste will be collected EVERY OTHER WEEK on the opposite week of recycling. Residents do NOT need to make a request for yard waste collection. The Recycle Coach calendar will be adjusted when dates are decided and residents can view their calendar and set reminders using the app.

Fall Leaves

Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste. Mulching not only returns vital nutrients to the soil, but experts say that it can help your grass grow even better the following year!

Never blow leaves into the street! If you see Street Sweeping signs posted on your street, please make sure to move your vehicle so any leaves that fell naturally on the street can be properly cleaned.

The Metro Public Works hosts free leaf drop-off sites in the fall. Dates are typically mid-November until mid-December. Check back for 2024 dates and locations.
