Recyclable Materials

In accordance with LMCO 51.405 (A) (5), the guidelines for acceptable recycling materials in the Urban Services District curbside program are listed below.

Please recycle only the following items: 
 

Paper

Newspaper, magazines, mail, cups, and flattened cardboard.
Recycle these paper items

Cartons

Empty food and beverage containers. 

Recycle these cartons

Plastic

Empty kitchen, laundry, bath bottles and containers.
Recycle these plastic items

Glass

Empty bottles and jars.
Recycle these glass items

Metal

Empty metal cans, foil pans and wrap.
Recycle these metal items

Please note: Rules for some plastic and metal items may differ if your recycling is not collected by Metro Solid Waste, Republic Services, Waste Management of KY, Eco Tech, or Hometown Hauling. Check with your recycling company or contact Karen Maynard if you have questions.

WHAT ABOUT PAINT AND BATTERIES?

For hard to dispose items such as paint, cooking oil, and batteries, visit our special program page.

WHAT ABOUT PLASTIC BAGS?

Plastic bags, outer package wrapping, bubble wrap, and more can be recycled at participating retail stores. Check out Kroger's list of accepted items at their store drop-off containers

WHAT ABOUT STYROFOAM?

Although Styrofoam food containers and packaging blocks are NOT accepted in Louisville's recycling program, you may drop off large Styrofoam packaging blocks for recycling at Foam Fabricators.

  • Styrofoam blocks MUST be clean (dirty/dusty items WILL be thrown in the trash)
  • Free of tape, stickers, or labels

You MUST check in at front office to have your donation inspected. Do NOT leave any items unattended - they will blow away causing litter!
