If you’re a student on break for the summer or just looking for a part-time job, we have positions open at our outdoor pools, golf course pro shops, in our recreation division and at Jefferson Memorial Forest.

Examples Of Work

UNDER CLOSE SUPERVISION
Performs general up-keep duties of parks, golf courses, cemeteries, grounds, swimming pools, sports fields and courts

Uses a variety of hand and power tools

Mows and trims grass, cuts weeds, trims and prunes shrubs and trees, rakes leaves and debris, collects litter from outside areas, and performs other grounds maintenance tasks

Uses hand truck wheelbarrow to transport materials at designated areas
Assists skilled workers in the maintenance of equipment or buildings
Digs ditches for water pipelines, graves or monument foundations

Performs custodial duties such as clean and sanitize rest rooms, commodes, sinks and mirrors, and replenishes soap and paper products. 

Reports deficiencies in equipment to immediate supervisor

Ensures the proper use of sports/recreation equipment and rules.

Prepares activity rooms for use by obtaining chairs, tables and other needed equipment and supplies. 

Monitors participants conduct and behavior.

Keeps facilities/area clean and organized by cleaning rest rooms, floors, stairwells, and entrance doors. 

Works with citizens of various ages and diverse backgrounds. 

Assist on field trips as needed at site.  Pack coolers for field trips. 

Performs other related work.

Essential Functions

Oversees participants at swimming pools to ensure a safe and sanitary environment

Examples Of Work

UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Monitors activities in swimming areas to detect hazards and disturbances, to prevent accidents and to provide assistance

Observes swimmers for safety.
Cautions swimmers regarding inclement weather, unsafe areas or illegal conduct
Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning
Examines injured persons, administers first aid, monitors vital signs, applies antiseptics and bandages, and administers artificial respiration to revive individuals
Maintains order and enforces rules

Works with citizens of various ages and diverse backgrounds. 

Mops, cleans, and removes trash from restroom and pool area
Tests water hourly and records results on pool log sheets to determine chlorine content and pH value

Resolves conflicts when possible, but contacts LMPD if situations escalate or if any illicit activities occur.

May operate a cash drawer and a computer Point of Sale Software

Prepares receipts and validates all transactions with Point of Sale Software
Receives payment by cash, check and credit card from the public

Shows discretion and is courteous to patrons when addressing issues of behavior, trash, restroom conditions and safety hazards or damage.

Must submit to pre-employment and random drug screenings.

Jefferson Memorial Forest

The Forest is the perfect place to teach, learn and grow!  We are the nation's largest city-owned forest, with 6,600 acres just 20 minutes from downtown Louisville, KY.  With 40 miles of hiking trails, multiple outdoor recreation and educational programs, volunteer opportunities, fishing, camping, picnic shelters, a conference center and more, it's a great place to work and to visit!

Seasonal positions run up to 6 months maximum, and include weekends.  Annual return is possible for the right person!
