What this center offers:
The center is also home to the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Program (AIR). AIR offers a wide range of recreational activities for individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities, along with their friends and families. Programs include wheelchair basketball, aqua exercise, bowling, dances, assisted shopping and more. AIR is a Louisville Paralympics Sports Program and offers a wide variety of adapted sports for all ages. Year round training and competition is available. AIR staff also work with other programs in the Recreation Division of Louisville Parks and Recreation to ensure people with disabilities can participate in recreation activities, and works with the department's Planning & Design staff to ensure that new capital projects are developed with accessibility in mind. Staff are also all Certified Disability Sports Specialist through Blaze Sports. One on one care (such as personal hygiene) is not provided at programs. Participants are welcomed to bring an aid or another individual to provide this assistance and this person will not be charged the program fee.
Dare to Care Kids Cafe:
The Berrytown Recreation Center is happy to announce that it will be a Kids Cafe site. Dare to Care Food Bank is proud to partner with local, non-profit after-school programs to offer free evening meals to children in our community through our Kids Cafe program. Children (18 and under) receive a warm, nutritious meal in a safe environment. In addition to receiving a meal, each child has the opportunity to participate in academic and extracurricular activities. Serving times are Mon - Thurs, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
*Note: This program takes place in the Watson Powell Senior Center next door to Berrytown Community Center.
