Clifton Design Guidelines

The Clifton Design Guidelines are used to review certificate of appropriateness applications in the Clifton Local Preservation District. The Design Guidelines are the distinctive characteristics and the statement of specific principals and standards governing exterior alterations to structures or sites applicable to the district which are adopted by the Council. The Design Guidelines are based on the United States Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

Clifton Design Guidelines

The Clifton Design Guidelines are organized under the following categories of improvements. To provide more assistance to the user, the Clifton neighborhood has also created an expanded version of their guidelines with examples and pictures (see Illustrated Guides).

Note: Applications in other local preservation districts and individual landmarks are reviewed under a different set of Design Guidelines, typically the Standard Design Guidelines.
