About Robin Engel
Councilman Robin Engel was born in Neenah, Wisconsin in 1962. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point with a BA in Communications. He served as Student Government Senator and College Republican Chairman.
In 2020, Engel successfully ran unopposed for his sixth consecutive term in office as District 22 Councilman for the Louisville Metro Council serving the Fern Creek and Jeffersontown areas in South East Jefferson County and the City of Heritage Creek. It must be noted from the 2020 census results that District 22 was the 3rd fastest growing district only behind Districts 19 and 20 which represent Middletown and Jeffersontown.
As a Council member, Engel currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Labor & Economic Development Committee. He also serves as a member of the Planning and Zoning Committee, as well as the Budget Committee. Councilman Engel is a current focus group member for the Interstate 65-71 Regional Connector Corridor Study Project. He previously was appointed as a member of the Ad Hoc Budget Committee for the new four-diamond luxury Omni Hotel as well as a member of the Council’s 2011 Redistricting Committee. Engel has Chaired the State Funding Formula Work Group formed in 2003 to research inequities in various funding formulas and identify the unmet needs that could be filled by bringing Louisville tax dollars back to our community.
Engel’s background includes over 36 years of extensive sales experience. He is the Senior Sales Representative for the R.J. Schinner Company where he manages the Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio territory.
In 2006, the Fern Creek Lions Club honored Engel as the first recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year Award. In June 2006, Engel served as a Kentucky World Trade Center representative in traveling to China as part of the Leadership Mission Conference with Jiujiang Sister City elected officials.
Engel’s active community involvement includes honorary memberships with the Fern Creek Community Association and Chamber of Commerce and the Jeffersontown Chamber of Commerce, along with being a former member of the Kentucky Right to Life Board of Directors. He served on the Fern Creek/Highview United Ministries Financial Task Force Committee for its $500,000 Capital Building Program in 2008-2009. He served as Past President of the Jeffersontown/Hikes Point Republican Club, past member of the Jefferson County Republican Executive Committee and Past President of the Old Fairgrounds Woods Homeowners Association. Engel was appointed by the Louisville Metro Council President to serve as a Louisville Zoo Foundation Board member for 2008-2010. Engel served as the 2009-2010 Jefferson County Chair of the statewide health initiative for the annual “2nd Sunday” program in conjunction with the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown program. He is a member of and previously served on the St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church Parish Council and was the Co-Chair of the Archdiocese of Louisville 2008-09 “Building a Foundation of Hope” campaign for St. Gabriel Parish.
Engel is married to Dena Akers, a teacher. They have four children ages 20 to 30 yrs. old. They are active members of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in Fern Creek.
