2017-2018 Approved Executive and Detail Budgets(July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018)Mayor Greg Fischer’s recommended Louisville Metro Government budget for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 was approved by Metro Council June 22, 2017 and went into effect July 1, 2017. The budget includes $596 million in General Fund dollars and $849 million overall (which includes $114 million in capital funding and debt service). Public safety funding adds 55 net new positions in Police – 44 new officers and 11 other positions, from crime scene technicians to firearms analysts; 30 firefighter recruits to fill expected vacancies; and $4 million for new police cars, ambulances, firetrucks, and equipment. The capital spending plan includes funding to construct a new Northeast Regional Library to open in late 2018, road paving and street improvements, sidewalk repair, and technology upgrades. Funds are also included to increase affordable housing through the Affordable Housing Trust Fund and Louisville CARES project.
