1 in 8 Kentuckians have diabetes
27.8% are presently Undiagnosed and ‘DON’T KNOW THEY HAVE DIABETES!’*,
1 in 3 Kentuckians have pre-diabetes 9 of 10 ‘DON’T KNOW THEY HAVE IT!*’
* Referenced from 2017 KY Diabetes Report

These statistics are staggering, but real in our communities. With an estimated 9 out of 10 people at risk for pre-diabetes not knowing their risk, we are asking you to help move these numbers in a positive direction.

On November 14, 2017, we will be "celebrating" World Diabetes Day. In Kentucky, the focus of the 2017 World Diabetes Day is to engage people with undiagnosed diabetes in schools, congregations, and workplaces by raising awareness, testing, and shepherding them into care and improved health.

In our region, the KIPDA Diabetes taskforce aims to support this initiative by hosting an ambitious screening campaign, with the goal of screening 10,000 local residents for diabetes risk.  We plan to do that through various marketing strategies that will raise awareness and result in use of a simple 7 question screening tool.

So we have an ASK

A Spread Awareness of the Risk factors of Diabetes.  Encourage people to know their numbers and risk factors. Plan an event, bring in a speaker, distribute materials to inform your sphere of influence on the risk of diabetes.

S Screening– Use the diabetes risk test to help your group members assess their risk for Diabetes.  Call 502-574-6663 or email andrea.doughty@louisvilleky.gov for more details on how to have a successful screening campaign at your location.
