Gigabit Experience Center
Louisville Metro Government wants to engage the entire community about the possibilities created by gigabit speed internet.
That's why we're creating the Gigabit Experience Center — a space in Louisville wired with gigabit speed internet access, with exhibits and opportunities for citizens to gain hands-on experience with this new technology.
With the Gigabit Experience Center, we aim to:
- Engaging all of Louisville regarding the potential of gigabit internet speeds and the importance of understanding and embracing technology.
- Empowering individuals, business concerns and organizations with knowledge and skills. Strategically focused on economic transformation of under-served areas of west Louisville.
- Collaboratively supporting local business and economic development to achieve optimum efficiency and effectiveness using collective community resources.
To do this, we're seeking support from the community. Organizations can:
Host an event at the Gigabit Experience Center
The PNC Gigabit Experience Center space can be used for free if the event aligns with the goals of the space. The event should be technology focused with a emphasis on using ultra high-speed internet.
Create a display for the Gigabit Experience Center
While the center will be hosting events at the space, there will also be an opportunity set up static displays at the center. We want groups/organizations to create displays that highlight how technology is impacting our world today. Again, we would like the displays to help the public understand the possibilities with gigabit internet speeds.
Donate
Supporters can donate earmarked funds to the Louisville Civic Innovation Fund at the Community Foundation of Louisville.
Announced in August, the Gigabit Experience Center will be located in Louisville Central Community Centers' Old Walnut Street Development, 1300 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd. It is set to open in early 2017.
This project is a collaboration of LCCC, Louisville Metro's Office of Performance Improvement & Innovation, and Louisville Forward.
