The Louisville Fire Training Academy provides research, development and delivery of quality educational programs based upon current standards related to the emergency service profession. These educational programs enable our members to provide the most professional emergency services to our community. From Domestic Preparedness to Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus training, the Training Bureau prepares and delivers numerous programs designed to make our members knowledgeable and safe.
The Training Academy delivers annual Recruit training which is labor intensive and mentally and physically challenging for Training Officers and Recruits alike. New recruits participate in a rigorous 18 week training program. Topics covered include basic fire fighting skills, EMT training, auto extrication, live fire exercises and hazardous materials management. This training follows NFPA guidelines for Fire fighter Level I certification.
The Academy also delivers professional development courses designed to prepare the member for advancement through the ranks of the department. The Fire Apparatus Operator, Company Officer and Executive Fire Officer programs are all based on current NFPA performance standards. The Training Academy also provides numerous training opportunities for members of the emergency response community from outside our Division. This is accomplished through partnerships that have been developed with other organizations throughout our community.
The Louisville Division of Fire CPR Center offers a variety of CPR courses to the public including BLA for Healthcare Provider, Heartsaver CPR w/AED, and more.
