Louisville Metro Government's Emergency Communication Center is the primary 9-1-1 Center for Louisville Metro. Our highly skilled personnel go through rigorous training and are considered some of the best in the Public Safety industry. We are equipped with unique, state-of-the art technology, which allows our employees to operate at their fullest potential.  

911 Call Takers: Receive calls from the public, both emergency and non-emergency. Provide callers with instructions based on their situation until help arrives. Starting pay: $24.48/hour.

911 Dispatchers: Coordinate and dispatch responders, maintain responder status, and provide updates to first responders. Be the voice of calm during the chaos, while keeping everything in order. Starting pay: $27.25/hour.

911 Telecommunicator Trainee: Receive instruction in Call Classification, Caller Management, Computer-Aided Dispatch, Call Documentation, Criminal Justice Information Systems, Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols & dispatch techniques to become a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator. Starting pay during training: $22.31/hour. After training & promotion: $24.48/hour

Louisville Metro Emergency Medical Services (LMEMS) provides 24-hours-a-day, 911 emergency medical care throughout the Louisville Metro area. EMS is committed to the development of the latest advances in basic and advanced life support patient care. We rely on advanced training methods and education, and use technology and latest research in emergency medical care. 

LMEMS accepts applications for certified EMTs, Advanced EMTs and Paramedics on a continuous basis. Applicant testing is held monthly. Please select one of the links below to apply.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) and Paramedics respond to emergencies. They provide first-line medical or emergency care for sick and injured people at the scene of calls that come through the 911 system. EMS Street Operations work 12-hour shifts on a two-week rotating schedule (see below). To allow for adequate coverage, crews can be required to work mandatory overtime for an additional four hours beyond their 12-hour shift. At this time, only full-time positions are utilized, therefore no part-time or PRN positions are available.
