Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Program

The Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Program prepares students for a career in EMS.  Students will be instructed in the most advanced medical practices available in the pre-hospital setting.  The program focuses on patient assessment and management of trauma and medical emergencies, advanced airway management, fluid initiation, resuscitation and pharmacological interventions.  Cardiac emergency management is strongly emphasized in the program.  During the program, students will learn to function as a team leader.  At the completion of the program, students will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and manage patients presenting with life-threatening emergencies.
The Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Education program is open exclusively to Louisville Metro EMS employees.  Employees undergo a rigorous 18-month training program to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Level as well as at the Emergency Medical Technician Level.

The Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).  This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation.  Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the National Registry’s Paramedic credentialing examination(s).  However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
