Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Program
The Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Program prepares students for a career in EMS. Students will be instructed in the most advanced medical practices available in the pre-hospital setting. The program focuses on patient assessment and management of trauma and medical emergencies, advanced airway management, fluid initiation, resuscitation and pharmacological interventions. Cardiac emergency management is strongly emphasized in the program. During the program, students will learn to function as a team leader. At the completion of the program, students will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and manage patients presenting with life-threatening emergencies.
The Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Program is open exclusively to Louisville Metro EMS employees. These employees will undergo a rigorous 18-month training program to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Level as well as the Emergency Medical Technician Level.
The Louisville Metro EMS Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions, CoAEMSP. This accreditation was awarded in 2022 and will be reviewed and renewed approximately every five years as required by CoAEMSP. This required accreditation is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as meeting the eligibility requirement to sit for the National Registry's Paramedic credentialing examination.
