Deputy Coroner's are called to the scene to investigate the death of anyone in Jefferson County.

The deputy coroners are death investigators. In this role, the deputy is mandated to determine the cause and manner of death. The deputy and the coroner act as a liasion between the police and the medical examiner's office in the investigation of various types of deaths in this community.

The deputies are continually involved in courses which will aid in their work. Each year, the deputy is mandated to attend training sessions to receive information about the deputy's work. Firearms training, vehicular death investigation, fatal child investigation, arson investigation, drug investigation deaths, and various other courses are available free of cost to the deputy. The training sessions are open to all deputy coroners and coroners throughout the commonwealth.
