Have you ever wondered why you should plant a tree?

Residents: With a small amount of money and minimal effort up front for the purchase and planting of a tree, a homeowner can experience multiple rewards:

· Curb Appeal
· Health Benefits
· Lowering of Heating and Cooling Costs
· Noise Reduction
· Additional Privacy
· Increased Property Value

While a tree is a lifetime commitment, it only requires a minimal amount of human assistance for it to live a long and healthy life. A resident can sit back and reap the rewards.

Neighborhoods: Most people that turn into a neighborhood for the first time become attentive to what can draw them to live in that place. If a neighborhood has more to offer than house after house with sun scorched lawns, it will become a prized place to live. Streets that are tree lined encourage children to get out and play in the shade during the hot days of summer, adults to enjoy landscaping the rest of their yard, and a visitor to slow down and appreciate what this small portion of the community is offering them. By investing in planting trees in neighborhoods, residents will experience pride for the character that their neighborhood offers to the outsider looking in.

Louisville: Trees are a large portion of a city’s green infrastructure. When placed appropriately a tree will assist in stemming storm water runoff and the erosion it causes, combatting heat islands (area of hotter temperatures in comparison to surrounding areas), and decreasing disturbances caused by wind, dust, and noise. Most importantly trees aid a city in combatting its carbon footprint (carbon emissions) and increase the air quality, which in turn increases the quality of life in Louisville. Along with these tremendous benefits that trees offer our city, trees will help to strengthen the economy of Louisville. A tree lined city street encourages commerce since a pedestrian will feel relaxed and want to window shop during their commute. Trees promote beautification which in turn boosts tourism by drawing visitors to the city.

So…with all these benefits we ask again: Why Plant a Tree?

Answer: A Tree Filled City is a Happy City!

Planting a tree can not only impact a private resident but the community overall.

We challenge you to show your dedication to improving the overall health and lives of Louisville citizens by planting your own tree.
