The APCD annually collects tens of millions of data points in order to accurately represent Louisville Metro's ambient air conditions. In order to get a fair representation of air quality throughout the county, the APCD currently operates air monitoring sites in five separate locations.
The monitoring network is evaluated annually to determine if changes to the network are needed. To ensure national consistency in air monitoring data, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that all sites meet certain criteria and that monitors are operated using approved procedures. The table below lists the current air monitoring sites operated by the APCD.
