The Book Works GIANT Book Event

The Book Works, a social enterprise in Louisville that employs and supports homeless and disconnected youth, is hosting a book sale at the YMCA Safe Place’s Youth Development Center, 2400 Crittenden Drive, Louisville on:

Friday, March 27, 2020, 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Saturday, March 28, 2020, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Sunday, March 29, 2020, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

This will be our largest sale yet, with 35,000 donated books offered at $2 for hardcovers and $1 for paperbacks. We will also offer thousands of newer music and movies for sale. On Sunday, every item will be 50% off.

The proceeds from sale events allow us to build partnerships like The Rosewater, Louisville’s new social enterprise used bookstore. Since opening last month, The Rosewater has become a hub in the Beechmont Neighborhood of South Louisville and a center of (re)engaging activities for disconnected youth and families in the community.

Why did we start a social enterprise book business? We chose books because we know many unwanted (but totally usable) books are dumped into landfills. We make certain every item is resold, reused in the community (we give lots of items to other groups), or recycled responsibly. We chose books because they are the tools of learning! Educational disruptions are too common in Louisville and our focus on books is a not too subtle reminder of how inclusive education is vital to every community. We chose books because we know they can connect people to each other in ways that cross every divide. As our bookmark says, "We Read to Know We Are Not Alone".
