Restitution Recovery
The Jefferson County Attorney’s Office (JCAO) Restitution Division was established for the purpose of monitoring, tracking, and collecting restitution monies owed by defendants to victims of crime. The JCAO handles cases referred to our office by the Jefferson District Court in instances where the Court has ordered that restitution be made to victims within a period specified by order of the Court.
Once the Court has entered an order that restitution be paid, a payment schedule is set that details when the payments must be made for distribution to the victim(s). In most cases, the defendant is ordered to make regular weekly/monthly payments. The collection time for monies owed varies on a case-by-case basis.
Once a defendant makes a restitution payment, funds are ordinarily sent to the crime victim within 10 business days of the date received. It is very important that our office has your correct address and contact information for you to receive payments. If that information changes, please notify our office in person or by email. If you have NOT received the expected restitution payments, please download and use the Restitution Inquiry Form located to the right or call the Restitution office at 502-574-6781.
