Jan 5 2015 Fischer Pledges Second Term Will Be 'Age of Investment' in City and People

Mayor Greg Fischer pledged today that his second term would be a time of “tremendous capital and human investment” in Louisville and he called upon all 760,000 people to become citizen investors.

Dec 23 2014 Proposed Title V Construction Permit C-0060-1052-14-V for Kosmos Cement Company

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to issue a construction permit to Kosmos Cement Company, 15301 Dixie Highway, in accordance with Regulation 2.03, for Emission Units 20 and 21 to install two separators and associated baghouses. The 30 day public comment period starts December 26, 2014 and ends on January 26, 2015. A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

Dec 22 2014 Men’s Winter Basketball Leagues Registration Underway at Metro Parks & Recreation

Metro Parks & Recreation is accepting team registrations for its adult men’s winter basketball leagues. Games will be played Tuesday evenings at the Cyril Allgeier Community Center, 4101 Cadillac Court, beginning January 6, with game times of 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. 

The fee is $400 per team, and participants must be 18 or older. Deadline to register is January 2, or until leagues are filled.

Today, leaders across Kentucky met in the chambers of the Kentucky House of Representatives to announce that LIFT (Local Investments for Transformation) Kentucky has been named House Bill 1 for the upcoming 2015 General Assembly. Historically, legislation filed as House Bill 1 indicates the measure is the top priority for House members.

Dec 18 2014 Holiday Week Schedules for Waste and Recycling Collection

Solid waste services will be altered under the following schedule for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday weeks:

Garbage/yard waste/recycling

There will be no residential garbage, yard waste or recycling collection on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25 or New Year’s Day, Thursday, January 1 within in the Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits). There will also be no junk/bulk waste collection in either week entirely.

Dec 18 2014 Curbside and Drop-off Christmas Tree Disposal Available

Metro Solid Waste Management will again this year offer curbside pickup of Christmas Trees to residents of the Urban Services District (the old City of Louisville boundaries). Beginning Friday, December 26, residents with City curbside yard waste pickup may set their Christmas trees and greenery out on their regular collection day. Trees must not be in plastic bags.

Gov. Steve Beshear and Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Edumedics LLC, a chronic disease management company, plans to expand its corporate headquarters in Louisville and create 17 new jobs.

Dec 17 2014 Mayor Says Balanced Approach Needed to Raising Minimum Wage; Supports $8.75 An Hour

Mayor Greg Fischer said today he supports raising the minimum wage to $8.75 an hour — which could lead to an annual salary increase of $3,120 for a person working full-time — but he’s not willing to gamble losing 2,000 existing jobs by going to a higher rate and “hurting the very people we are trying to help.”
