The members of the Louisville Metro Council are honoring someone who has quietly worked behind the scenes to ensure that the details of ordinances, resolutions, committee minutes and summaries are accurate and preserved as officials documents. On Tuesday March 31st, Kay Grissett, Assistant Metro Council Clerk will retire after serving 27 years of work serving the people of Metro Louisville and Jefferson County.

Midea America Corporation plans to locate its first U.S. research and development operation in Louisville, Mayor Greg Fischer and Governor Steve Beshear announced today.

Midea, the third-largest appliance maker in the world, plans to create up to 25 new jobs and invest nearly $2.7 million into the project.

Mar 25 2015 Study shows city losing 54,000 trees yearly; Mayor seeks public input to reverse the decline

Releasing a first-of-its-kind survey that shows Louisville is losing 54,000 trees a year, Mayor Greg Fischer today called for public input to help reverse the trend.

The year-long study shows that the city’s tree canopy has declined from 40 percent to 37 percent in eight years—the result of insect damage, ice storms, trees not being replaced and many other factors.

Mar 19 2015 Brightside/Waste Management of Kentucky’s Premium Compost Sale Returns March 21 and April 25, 2015

Brightside’s bi-annual compost sale and fundraiser will be held Saturday, March 21 and Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Outer Loop Recycling and Disposal Facility located at 2673 Outer Loop, Louisville, Kentucky 40219.

Brightside’s community partner, Waste Management of Kentucky, generously donated the organic, plant-based compost again this spring.  All proceeds from the sale will benefit Brightside’s beautification and sustainability efforts.
