Dec 12 2014 Bike Sharing Public Input Meeting Set

Bike sharing is coming to Louisville. Our planned Bikeshare Program could launch as soon as next summer, making bikes available to all for short term use at about 30 sharing stations in and around downtown Louisville.

The public is invited to a meeting to talk about the idea, discuss tentatively selected station locations, and make suggestions for locations. The meeting is scheduled for December 16 at the Urban Design Studio, 507 S 3rd Street from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Kindred Healthcare is planning a major expansion of its corporate headquarters in downtown Louisville.

Governor Steve Beshear and Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Kindred Healthcare Operating Inc. is expected to create up to 500 full-time jobs and construct a new operations center in Theatre Square.

Dec 11 2014 Jefferson Memorial Forest Plans ‘Double Hike’ Day


Experience the beauty of a wintery landscape at Jefferson Memorial Forest on Saturday, December 20, when free guided hikes will be offered both morning and evening. All ages are welcome and each hike will begin and end around a warm fire at the forest’s Welcome Center, 11311 Mitchell Hill Road.

The first hike starts at 9 a.m. with hikers themselves choosing the trail the group will follow that morning, based on weather and trail conditions.

Dec 10 2014 Proposed Agreed Board Order with American Synthetic Rubber Company

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control Board will hold a public hearing on December 17, 2014, on a proposed Agreed Board Order with American Synthetic Rubber Company. ASRC is alleged to have violated District Regulations 1.07 (Excess Emissions during Startups, Shutdowns, and Upset Conditions) and 2.16 (Title V Operating Permits) at its facility located at 4500 Camp Ground Road.

Dec 10 2014 Louisville’s Unemployment Rate Lowest Since 2007

Louisville’s jobless rate in October is 5.2%, the lowest since November 2007 and evidence that the economy continues to improve. The October 2014 unemployment rate is down 2.5% from October 2013.


Mayor Greg Fischer urges Louisville’s citizens to step up and volunteer for JCPS’s “Take What You Can Tote” clothing giveaway events in December.  The effort is a partnership between JCPS’s 15th District PTA Clothing Assistance Program, known as CAP, and Metro Government’ Office for Safe and Health Neighborhoods.

The work of more than 88 foster grandparents who help mentor children will be honored at a special luncheon Dec. 11.  The holiday-themed event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.

Dec 8 2014 Zipcar Arrives in Louisville

Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, is coming to Louisville. Zipcar members in the Louisville area are now able to reserve vehicles in the city from two spots leased by the Parking Authority of River City (PARC) at the Brown Hotel.

A self-serve, rentable vehicle, the two new Zipcars can be reserved by members via the Zipcar smartphone app. 

Dec 8 2014 Proposed FEDOOP Operating Permit for Forth Technologies

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to issue a revised FEDOOP operating permit to Forth Technologies (Pigment Manufacturing), 600 Bergman Avenue in accordance with Regulation 2.17. The 30 day public comment period starts December 9, 2014 and ends on January 9, 2015.  A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.
