Facing a $65 million-dollar budget gap over the next four years due to increased pension payments, Metro Council President David James along with Caucus Chair Pat Mulvihill, Budget Chair Bill Hollander, and Budget members Barbara Sexton Smith and Markus Winkler are sponsoring an ordinance to increase the city’s tax rates on home, life, marine and miscellaneous insurances.

Feb 13 2019 Insurance premium tax increase proposed to help cover $65M budget gap and prevent devastating cuts

Facing devastating potential cuts because of an expected $65 million general fund gap over the next four years, Mayor Greg Fischer is proposing to increase the city’s tax rates on home, life, marine and miscellaneous insurance, such as malpractice, title insurance and umbrella coverage, from their current five percent to 12.5 percent in FY20 and FY21, 13.5 percent in FY22 and 15 percent in FY23.

Louisville Metro Government has announced a new public art opportunity with the Commission on Public Art and as part of Lean Into Louisville. This opportunity called “Untold Stories in Public Spaces” will support projects that memorialize and/or celebrate narratives that have not yet been recognized through an artistic lens in Louisville’s public spaces.

            The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control Board will hold a public hearing on an Agreed Board Order with American Synthetic Rubber Company. ASRC is alleged to have violated District Regulation 5.01 (General Provisions) District Regulation 5.15 (Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions) and District Regulation 5.21 (Environmental Acceptability for Toxic Air Contaminants) at the facility located at 4500 Camp Ground Road in Jefferson County, Kentucky.

Last week (Feb. 3 - 9) reported cases of flu hit a new high: 921 cases for the week.  Cases are overwhelmingly infulenza strain A.  This brings our total number of flu cases for this season to 4,623.  There have been 6 influenza related deaths. You can see more at our Flu Activity page.
