Jul 22 2016 Public Health and Wellness Warns against Handling or Touching Bats

Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness is warning people to never touch or handle bats, which are major carriers of rabies, a fatal disease. 

Earlier this month, several children came into contact with a bat while playing in a Louisville playground and had to receive rabies immune globulin (RIG), as well as a series of rabies vaccinations.

The Mayor reminds citizens that extremely high or unusually hot temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death.

Mayor Greg Fischer updated citizens today about measures being taken to improve public safety, and improve police and community relations.

Noting that public safety has been the priority of his administration from the start, the Mayor said the issue has come into even sharper focus of late, “because of a sequence of tragedies involving the needless deaths of young black men and police officers in cities around the country.”

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to renew a FEDOOP operating permit for Avoca Asphalt Plant (Hot Mix Asphalt Production Plant), 12613 Avoca Road (13400 Old Henry Road), in accordance with Regulation 2.17. The 30 day public comment period starts July 22, 2016 and ends on August 22, 2016. A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.
