May 6 2016 Proposed FEDOOP Operating Permit O-0465-16-F (R1) for Universal Minerals, Inc.

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to issue a FEDOOP operating permit to Universal Minerals, Inc., 8250 Port Road, Louisville, KY 40258 in accordance with Regulation 2.17. The 30 day public comment period starts May 7, 2016 and ends on June 6, 2016.  A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

The 30 day public comment period starts May 7, 2016 and ends on June 6, 2016.  A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

May 5 2016 Louisville to celebrate Derby by lighting Big Four Bridge in colors of winner’s jockey silks

Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that the Big Four Bridge at Waterfront Park will be lit up Saturday evening in the colors of the 2016 Kentucky Derby winner’s jockey silks.

“It’s a new Derby tradition,” the Mayor said. “The Kentucky Derby has long been a beloved symbol for our community, and the Big Four has come to be the same. It’s only fitting that we bring these two together.”

The 30 day public comment period starts May 7, 2016 and ends June 6, 2016.  A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

May 4 2016 47th Annual Municipal Clerks Week honors all in Local Government who maintain the official records of legislative bodies

They are responsible for recording the actions of city councils all over the world.  They keep and maintain meeting minutes and make sure all documents are correct as part of the orderly function of local government.  They are the official records custodian for local governments. In honor of their hard work, this week, May 1st through May 7th, is the 47th Annual Municipal Clerks Week.

 

May 4 2016 Mayor Fischer makes Derby wager with Ocala Mayor

Mayor Greg Fischer and Ocala (Florida) Mayor Kent Guinn today made a friendly wager on the Kentucky Derby, placing Louisville bourbon and Ocala brandy on the line.

The wager has become an annual tradition between the mayors of the two cities, both steeped in thoroughbred tradition.

Louisville – Councilman Bill Hollander (D-9) is inviting everyone to a special free celebration on Saturday, May 14th, when “Shakespeare in the Parks” brings Romeo and Juliet to Story Avenue Park in Butchertown.

           “This is the third year Kentucky Shakespeare is bringing classic works to all areas of our city,” says Hollander.  “This is a great way to welcome the spring season and it’s FREE.”

May 3 2016 Free Junk Drop-off at Outer Loop Landfill

A free bulk waste and junk drop-off event will be held on Sunday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waste Management Outer Loop Landfill, 2673 Outer Loop.  Residents throughout Jefferson County may drop off bulky items not accepted during regular garbage collection such as appliances, furniture and mattresses.

Mayor Fischer announced today the redevelopment of the Jacob School buildings into senior living apartments. Bywater Development Group is proposing a comprehensive historic rehabilitation of the school buildings and redevelopment of the site, creatively converting the historic buildings into affordable senior apartments.

To seek better ways to honor our community heritage, Mayor Fischer announced the formation of the Historic Preservation Advisory Task Force. The Task Force will seek to create policies to address preservation planning strategies that anticipate and identify areas where historic preservation and/or adaptive reuse should be identified.
