Feb 11 2016 Additional Community Syringe Exchange Site to Open February 17

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will open a second community site for the Louisville Metro Syringe Exchange Program on  Wednesday February 17. The site will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays in a vacant lot owned by the Louisville Metro Housing Authority at 1455 Bicknell Avenue.  The site will be operated by Volunteers of America under a contract to the Department of Public Health and Wellness.

Goal is to raise at least $30,000 for children impacted by high levels of lead 

Mayor Greg Fischer joined members of the Louisville Water Co. and its Foundation, Louisville MSD and WaterStep to launch a community-wide effort to provide funding for children in Flint, Michigan, who have been impacted by high levels of lead in their drinking water.

Feb 10 2016 Iroquois Park’s Rundill Road section to close next week

A section of Rundill Road, the lower road within Iroquois Park, will be closed between Iroquois Parkway to Sanders Gate Road from Monday, Feb. 15 to Sunday, Feb. 21 for a culvert replacement project.

First meeting of Reuse Committee is February 16

 

Louisville is launching a community wide effort to design a strategy to help cut down on the use of landfills by reusing goods and materials as much as possible. Anyone with an interest is invited to take part next week in the kickoff meeting of the Reuse Collective Impact Committee.

Feb 9 2016 BEAM Selected to Develop Regional Plan to Attract Foreign Direct Investment as Part of the Global Cities Initiative

Today, Mayor Greg Fischer announced that the Bluegrass Economic Advancement Movement (BEAM) has been selected to develop a regional plan to attract and leverage foreign direct investment, building off its existing BEAM Regional Economic Growth Plan, as part of the Global Cities Initiative, a joint project of the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase.

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and its community partners offer free stop smoking classes using the Cooper/Clayton method.  The 13-week program includes weekly support group meetings, combined with the use of nicotine replacement products such as patches and gum.  Participants receive free weekly supplies of nicotine replacement products.
