Apr 29 2016 UofL, Louisville officials announce removal of Confederate monument on Belknap Campus

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and University of Louisville President James Ramsey announced today that the Confederate monument on Third Street at UofL’s Belknap campus will be moved to a new location to be determined at a later date.

When the Confederate Monument on South Third Street was built in the 1890s, there was a conversation in the community about where it should be placed.  It was partly about geography, but it was also about the context of the day and the legacy of the Civil War.

Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Louisville residents can now sign up to receive an automatic notice, via email and text, when their street is scheduled to be swept by Metro Public Works. The notices are meant to alert residents in advance that they must find alternate parking on street sweeping day.

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to issue an operating permit to MPLX Terminals, LLC—Algonquin Terminal (distribution of gasoline products), 4510 Algonquin Parkway, Louisville KY 40211, in accordance with Regulation 2.16. The 30 day public comment period starts April 30, 2016 and ends on May 31, 2016.  A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

Apr 22 2016 Business leaders, Mayor Fischer announce city’s commitment to Climate Compact

Joined by local business leaders, Mayor Greg Fischer today signed the Compact of Mayors, the world’s largest cooperative effort among city leaders to reduce greenhouse gas emissions track progress and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

The signing ceremony, on Earth Day, is in support of the Climate Summit For Local Leaders, a global coalition of city leaders dedicated to taking climate actions in their communities. The Summit took place in Paris last year.
