May 4 2015 Louisville Forward named one of Site Selection’s Top U.S. Economic Development Groups for 2014

Louisville Forward, the city’s economic development organization, is named one of the Top U.S. Economic Development Groups for 2014 by Site Selection magazine.  Since its creation in July, Louisville Forward has helped businesses create nearly 3,500 new jobs in Louisville, representing an investment of more than half a billion dollars. 

May 4 2015 Free Workshop Helps Citizens Build or Repair Credit History

“Credit As An Asset” is new workshop offered by Louisville Metro Department of Community Services that provides people with the tools to build or rebuild a good credit history. This free, two-hour workshop will help individuals think about their relationship with credit and why credit it is important and plan for future financial stability.

May 4 2015 Councilman Owen announces “Front Porch Tuesdays” returns on May 12th and 19th

With warmer days and nights ahead, May is a perfect time to start the getting out of the house and just checking on the neighbors to see what’s happening on the street where you live. To help everyone get into that practice, Councilman Tom Owen announces the return of a successful idea which brings some neighbors closer together. “Front Porch Tuesdays” return to District 8 on May 12th and 19th.

May 4 2015 2015 Spring Summer Bike Tour underway in District 8

Councilman Tom Owen is once again continuing a tradition designed to get out in District 8 and make himself more available to his constituents. Owen has kicked off his annual Spring Summer Bike Tour which will visit neighborhoods and small cities in District 8 before the Summer is over. He began with a tour last week in the Upper Highlands.

May 4 2015 District 9 presents “Shakespeare in the Parks” production of Macbeth in Story Avenue Park on May 10th

Louisville – Councilman Bill Hollander invites District 9 residents to come out for a special presentation of “Shakespeare in the Parks” Macbeth on Sunday, May 10th in Story Avenue Park.

          “I can think of no better way to bring the arts to our neighborhoods and at the same time give everyone a chance to enjoy Story Avenue Park,” says Hollander. “This production has been very well received everywhere it has been performed.”

Disney’s 2013 hit animated feature film “Frozen” helps kick off another year of Free Summer Movies at Iroquois Amphitheater on Saturday, May 9th. 

May 3 2015 Restored Crescent Hill Gatehouse Re-Opens May 13Monday, May 11, 2015The fully restored historic Crescent Hill Gatehouse is re-opening May 13 with a special open house open to the public from 5:30- 8:00 p.m. Work on the gatehouse began in 2013 and includes both interior and exterior work. Except for repair work after the 1974 tornado, this is the first large-scale restoration of the gatehouse, which was designated a Kentucky Historic Site in 2010.

The volunteer projects ranged from helping distribute toys to needy kids to renovating abandoned houses for deserving families to repairing bicycles for use by refugees. Those and many other projects and deeds produced more than 166,000 volunteers and acts of compassion during Louisville’s fourth annual Give A Day week of service which ended April 26.

Two businesses were approved for loans in the amount of $72,703.00 by the Louisville Metropolitan Business Development Corporation.  The loans will leverage a total investment of $1.7 million to assist two companies to renovate properties and prepare them for productive commercial reuse.
