Louisville – This Saturday, Sun Valley Park will welcome thousands from all over Metro Louisville when the 28th Annual Southwest Community Festival gets underway on Saturday, October 12th.
"This Festival is a great celebration of community by the people of Southwest Louisville. We will come together for fun, food and the opportunity to help others," says Councilwoman Cindi Fowler (D-14). “It’s an old fashion community get together for families, friends, and neighbors.” The Festival will get underway from 9:00am to 5:00pm at Sun Valley Park, located at 6505 Bethany Lane.
This year’s event offers a wide variety of entertainment including the 15th Annual Southwest Car Fest sponsored by the River City Street Rods Inc. featuring classic cars and motorcycles.
The Valley View Church will host Kids City and Toddler Town with free games and inflatables. The Seniors Tent returns with bingo, drawings and much more fun.
This year’s headline entertainment is a local favorite: the Louisville Crashers with the music of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
Fowler along with Council members Rick Blackwell (D-12), Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) and David Yates (D-25) are sponsoring the Festival and encourage everyone to come out.
"This Festival is just one of the many in Metro Louisville that celebrates our community and its pride,” says Yates (D-25). “There are many volunteers and different groups who work hard every year to make this a great day for everyone.”
On Friday, the Valley Women’s Club will hold its annual Bean Soup Supper beginning at 5:00pm. Then Saturday morning, a pancake breakfast to benefit the Southwest Community Ministries will begin at 8:00am until 11:00am. The breakfast features sausage, biscuits and gravy along with a wide variety of pancakes. Both events will be at the Sun Valley community center.
“The Valley Women’s Club is a dedicated service club in our area and the Southwest Ministries do a wonderful job in helping those in need and they can always use our help in carrying out their mission,” says Welch. “These events will help both group carry on their work in our community.”

Joining Council members as sponsors of the Festival are KentuckyOne along with LG&E. Free shuttle service to the Car Show and Festival events will be provided by South Jefferson Christian Church.
