Four De Lis Run Set for Labor Day

Thursday August 15, 2013

10K run/walk starts 8 a.m. at Waterfront Park

Waterfront Park will be the site for a 10K event for runners and walkers Labor Day. It’s the second of the four running races that are part of the KentuckyOne Health Four De Lis Classic Series.

The 6.2 mile event will start at 8 a.m., prior to the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Subway Hike, Bike & Paddle at Waterfront Park, near Witherspoon St.

The Four De Lis runs were started earlier this year by Mayor Greg Fischer to help make Louisville an even stronger running city and a healthier community.

“These runs are designed to keep veteran runners in shape and staying competitive and as a fun, shorter distance to help introduce newcomers to running and fitness walking,” Fischer said. “We hope lots of people will turn out early for the run then stick around for the Hike, Bike & Paddle activities.”

KentuckyOne Health is the title sponsor of the running series.

“KentuckyOne Health is proud to again support the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown,” said Allen Montgomery, senior vice president of Community Health and Advocacy for KentuckyOne Health. “As the largest health care system in Kentucky, the KentuckyOne Health Four de Lis Classics is one more way we can help fulfill our mission by promoting health and wellness. Making exercise more accessible and year-round to our community with this series of events makes exercise more fun and a family event.”

The fee for the 10K run is $35. For more information and to register online, go to www.headfirstperformance.com. Individuals can also register on site the day of the race. Everyone registering in advance will be guaranteed a New Balance Tech T-shirt.

A one-mile course is also available along with three shorter distances for children and youth, ages 3-10. Awards will be given to the top three males and females overall. Age group awards will also be given out.

In addition to the Labor Day run at Waterfront Park, the additional Four De Lis events are:

  • Fall Trail Run, Oct. 19, 8 a.m. Jefferson Memorial Forest. 5K course. (prior to the annual Mayor’s Fall Hike & Adventure)
  • Run Run Rudolph, Nov. 29, 2 p.m. 4th and Liberty. 5K course. (part of the Light Up Louisville celebration and activities)

The events are part of the city’s Healthy Hometown Movement, created to encourage Louisville residents to be more active and make healthier lifestyle choices.

Additional support for the series is provided by Fleet Feet and Quest Outdoors.
