Louisville Metro Council passed a Resolution this evening supporting the National Association of Counties (NACO) Stepping Up Initiative to Reduce the Number of People with Mental Illnesses in Local Jails by a unanimous vote. This initiative encourages public, private and nonprofit partners to reduce the number of people with mental illnesses in our local jails.

He was a minister who served the Portland Memorial Missionary Baptist Church for 47 years. He was a former Tenth Ward Alderman in the old City of Louisville and someone who for civil and human rights and had a definite impact in the community until the time of his death in February of 2013. On Sunday, August 2nd, Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton (D-5) along with family members and members of Rev. Smith’s congregation will unveil a sign in his honor at the intersection of 38th and Market Street.
