The Solid Waste Management Division of Metro Public Works will offer compost workshops July 25, 2015 at Limerick Garden and August 1 at Miles Park. Composting is an easy way to turn yard waste and food scraps into make-it-yourself fertilizer for use in gardens, lawns and other landscaping. It also greatly reduces the need for haul-away disposal of those organic materials.

Jul 1 2015 Louisville’s minimum wage increases to $7.75 today

Stating today, minimum wage in Louisville is $7.75 an hour.

The new rate took effect after the Kentucky Court of Appeal denied a request for an emergency injunction to stop Louisville’s minimum wage increase.

All companies in Jefferson County, including independent cities and unincorporated areas, are required to start paying their hourly employees — excluding tip workers — the new rate.

Hello, my name is Travis. I have worked at LMAS since July of 2013. For the first year at LMAS I was an Animal Care Specialist providing daily care for the animals in our shelter. I have since become an Animal Control Officer as of last July and enjoy every minute of it. I graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a concentration in Zoology. Ever since I was little I knew that I would be working with animals for the rest of my life.

Jun 30 2015 Hazardous Materials Center Closed Temporarily

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 30, 2015) – The Haz Bin hazardous materials disposal center is closed this week because of road repairs. The entrance road to the facility at 7501 Grade Lane is being repaved. The paving work should be completed by the end of this week, weather permitting, and Haz Bin should resume its regular operating hours of Wednesday and Saturday, 9 AM to 3 PM on Wednesday July 8.
