LMPD Announces New Tool in Identifying Persons of Interest
Thursday May 10, 2012
Every year there are billions of dollars in losses directly related to identity theft. There are also over 1 billion dollars in annual losses by businesses due to retail theft. Citizens ultimately pay for these losses since costs are typically passed on to consumers.
In an effort to help resolve criminal cases involving identity theft, retail theft, credit card fraud and various other crimes, IDThisPerson.com was created to assist law enforcement in identifying suspects or persons of interest related to criminal activity.
IDThisPerson.com empowers citizens to help fight identity theft and related crimes by providing them an anonymous format in which they can provide identifying information on persons of interest to law enforcement without having to leave their home or identify themselves. Those persons helping to identify subjects on the website are eligible to receive a $25 reward through the iCARDGiftCard website. Everyday images of unidentified suspects or persons of interest are added to the IDThisPerson.com website by law enforcement. The LMPD encourages citizens to visit IDThisPerson.com to begin to identify persons of interest. The LMPD hopes that www.IDThisPerson.com becomes as popular and useful to the public as 574-LMPD (5673).
