Volunteers Needed for U.S. Quad Rugby Association National Championship Tournament, In Louisville March 21-23

Wednesday March 12, 2014

Volunteers are needed to assist as Louisville again welcomes the United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA) National Championship Tournament. The event runs March 21-23 at the Kentucky International Convention Center, and is free and open to the public. Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation and Frazier Rehab Institute are the local co-hosts for the tournament, and 2014 marks the eighth year the tournament has been held in Louisville.

Volunteers assist event coordination in a variety of ways, including event set-up, cleanup, scorekeeping, timekeeping, transportation, information booth staffing and general errands. Training and instruction will be provided; no experience is necessary.

Quad Rugby, or Wheelchair Rugby, is a combined sport of wheelchair basketball and ice hockey, played with a regulation-sized volleyball. Players must have a combination of upper and lower extremity impairment to be considered eligible to play. Most of the players have sustained cervical-level spinal injuries and have some type of physical disability as a result. Four players from each team are allowed on the court at a time. The sport is played on a regulation-sized basketball court.
