Shawnee Arts & Cultural Center Presents Youth Art Series “Leaving Footprints”
Thursday March 20, 2014
The opening reception for the “Leaving Footprints” youth art series will be held March 27, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Metro Park's Shawnee Arts and Cultural Center, 607 South 37th Street.
This new exhibit is the second in the “Leaving Footprints” series, and will feature nine middle- and high school-age artists, working in a variety of mediums, including painting, collage, drawing and mask-making. The exhibit runs through May 27.
The opening reception will also feature a live performance art piece at 6:30 p.m. with artist aJourney deBlessed, and guests will have the opportunity to put together art puzzles.
Launched in fall 2013, this youth art initiative provides a safe, positive space for young artists to visually express themselves and to be empowered as artists. “Leaving Footprints” is primarily youth-driven, aiming to give teens a sense of self-confidence and worth through the exhibition and recognition of their work as emerging artists.
The event is free and open to the public.
