2010 Bluecoats of Louisville

On December 8, 2010 the Bluecoats of Louisville, a group of Louisville Area Businessmen that was founded in 1957, recognized members of the Louisville Fire Department at a Luncheon at the Bristol in Downtown Louisville. The members were recognized for the incident below.

On September 9, at 1:30 in the morning, our units responded to an apartment fire with multiple rescues at 500 Wimbleton Court (Autumn Run Apartments) off Goldsmith Lane. As they arrived they found heavy fire coming from the second and third floors of the apartment building, as well multiple occupants in need of rescue; some of them jumping from balconies. Although we had over 50 firefighters working on this two-alarm fire, thanks to the actions of these members, at least seven citizens are alive today. Demonstrating the team work required of our profession, they rescued occupants from balconies as well as the inside of the building. Three people had jumped prior to our arrival; one was transported with two broken wrists and smoke inhalation, and two were transported with smoke inhalation and back pain. They survived their injuries and have fully recovered.
