National Expert to Address Special Session of the Healing Possible Quorum

Harvard Professor Dr. David R. Williams will address a special session of the Healing Possible Quorum on Sunday March 30 at 3:00 p.m. at the Muhammad Ali Center located at 144 N. 6th St. Dr. William’s lecture is titled The Business Case for Racial Equity – Investing in Our Children and Future. The event is free and the public is invited.
Dr. Williams is the Florence Sprague Norman and Laura Smart Norman Professor of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health and Professor of African and African American Studies and of Sociology at Harvard University. He is internationally recognized as a leading social scientist focused on social influences on health. His research has enhanced our understanding of the complex ways in which race, racial discrimination, socioeconomic status and religious involvement can affect physical and mental health. He is a contributor on the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s recently released report The Business Case for Racial Equity (October 2013).
The Healing Possible Quorum is a group of one hundred adults who meet once a month on Saturdays to study such issues as income, employment, housing, environmental quality, education, transportation, healthcare criminal justice and community safety. The group’s mission is to formulate and propose policy solutions with a particular reference to the role of race in many of these issues. The Sunday session with Dr. David Williams on March 30 is a special session to accommodate Dr. Williams’ schedule and is open to the public.
